Former Marine Rejects Plea Deal, Trial Begins Thursday

25 January 2012 No Comment

San Clemente, CA –A former marine rejected a plea deal and will now face trial on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.  The plea deal would have given him six years maximum of jail time.  If convicted at trial Andrew Stueber, 27, will face up to twelve years in jail.  His trial will begin on Thursday.  In August 2009, Stueber was driving drunk when he lost control of his Ford Mustang and crashed into a tree.  Edmund Vandecasteele, the passenger in the front seat, was killed and the two passengers in the back seat were injured.  Stueber was speeding at double the posted speed limit of 35 mph, lost control of the car, and smashed into the tree.  The impact caused the car to be split in half.  Vandecasteele, 22, was declared dead at the scene.  Stueber and the other two passengers were taken to local hospitals.  His blood-alcohol level after the crash was 0.09.  If you have been arrested for driving under the influence, contact an Orange County DUI attorney today.
