Families of Killed Hungarians File Wrongful Death Suits
Two Hungarian students were killed in a duck boat accident last month and their parents have now filed wrongful death suits against the tour operator, the city, and others involved in the incident.
Last month on the Delaware River, a barge being pushed by a tugboat slammed into the stalled tour duck boat. The boat capsized, tossing all 37 passengers and crew into the river, which was dark and moving quickly. Although the Hungarians were described as strong swimmers, they did not survive the boat wreck. Thirty-five other passengers were rescued by passers-by, firefighters, and a passing ferry boat.
According to the lawsuit, the city was using a dangerous waterway for both large commercial vessels as well as pleasure boats.
The lawyers are seeking $50,000 in damages per family.
